Le Masque / Steinberg, Saul ; Butor M ; Rosenberg H., 1966
Butor and Rosenberg wrote introductory essays to Steinberg's illustrations that feature viewers gazing at a cubist painting, photographs of people wearing Steinberg decorated paper bag masks, landscape, cityscapes, air mail motifs, cartoons with micrographic calligaphic markings, images involving music records, labyrinths, feigned ancient battles, pyramids, and bird-like people among others. Three hundred copies of the book were released with a signed lithograph; this copy is not part of that edition. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Non-Sectarian Crucifixion / levy, d.a.., 1964
Image is an oil paint semi-realistic sketch of an individual held on a crucifix. The major colors are browns on a white primed background. Geoffrey Cook who owned the painting wrote to the Sackners that "although d.a. was most secular, he was deeply aware of his Jewishness: 'I am a levy of the levites,' and did not wish to have these paintings seen totally in a Christian historical context. I believe, though, levy was drawn to the suffering represented in our own culture by the icon of the cruxifixion because of the suffering he actually felt in his own life. I don't think that the markings below to the right have a significance, I believe they can be explained by the action painting technique." -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.

Tejado / Sarduy, Severo., 1990
This drawing is subtlely structured in a grid twelve squares. The English title of this drawing is "Tiled Roof." The calligraphic marks resemble micrographic writings in a made-up alphabet. Sarduy used black, gray and red for his markings, but the work seems infused with color and light. Sarduy died of AIDS in June 1993. -- Source of annotation: Marvin or Ruth Sackner.
